This module introduces pastoral care as essential for the holistic wellbeing of a person. It aims to prepare
participants for providing a caring presence with competence and confidence. It covers basic biblical
principles of pastoral care. It pays attention to skills pertinent to attentive listening and various possible
pastoral responses. Participants will learn about the practice of pastoral care in differing contexts and
cultures through the analysis of biblical and other texts and resources. Discussions based on case studies
and role plays will aid this understanding. The module will prepare participants for the complexity of
encountering difficult spiritual questions in the face of bitter experiences like trauma, death and
bereavement.
