Welcome to the Community of Learning

The St Barnabas College Community of Learning is for the whole people of God. It is where the unique learning needs of the Anglican Diocese of Adelaide are met. The Community of Learning provides parish and community-based short courses and micro-credentialed theology to develop and equip lay leaders and encourage fellowship and discipleship in parishes. The Community of Learning also meets the professional development needs of any interested people and especially of clergy, as determined by their obligations within the Ministry Wellbeing Program.

Archbishop’s Certificate Module 1 – Lay Leader’s Toolbox

27 April - 25 May 2026 (Monday) 1.5 hours/session
In-person
This module supports lay leaders across the diocese in developing skills for leading non‑Eucharistic worship, reading Scripture, crafting and leading intercessions, preaching, and using microphones and AV systems. It also introduces parish governance, including chairing meetings and facilitating effective group decision‑making.

Archbishop’s Certificate Module 2 – Handling the Bible

11 June - 10 July 2026 (Thursday or Friday options available) 1.5 hours/session

This module is for those wanting to learn more about the Bible. It will be taught by Bishop Tim Harris who has over 30 years of tertiary teaching experience through various universities, colleges and seminaries and is the Research Coordinator and Director Centre of Research and Missional Praxis. at St Barnabas College.

Archbishop’s Certificate Module 3 – Understanding Pastoral Care

4 - 24 August 2026 (Tuesdays) 1.5 hours/session

This module introduces pastoral care as essential for the holistic wellbeing of a person. It aims to prepare participants for providing a caring presence with competence and confidence.

Learning Resources

This module is for lay leaders who want to learn leading Morning and Evening Prayer and other non-Eucharist worship and setting up and serving Holy Communion.

This is a workshop for disciples who want to learn more about developing welcoming, inclusive and respectful parishes and communities.

Learn about the multiple options for worship and thanksgiving prayers using the 2 main versions of A Prayer Book of Australia. The Green Cover for Sunday services, liturgical psalter, daily prayer, and church prayer. The Red Cover or the Priest’s version for the pastoral services like marriage, ministry with the sick and dying, and funerals and for The Ordinal, ordaining and consecrating bishops, priests, and deacons.

An introduction to the Bible, context, meaning and significance, how we received it and how it speaks to us today.

Workshops, discussions and tutorials designed to develop lay ministers in areas that will lead to spiritual growth, encourage sharing faith and equip us with confidence to use our gifts and skills.

A short course for school chaplains, teachers and professional staff that introduces participants to characteristics of Anglicanism through the lens of worship and spirituality, church life, and mission. Participants will examine the ways in which various strands of the tradition have developed historically, how these are expressed in global Anglicanism, and what it means to be Anglican in Australia today.

This short course focuses on listening for God in our daily lives. Participants will learn practices and spiritual disciplines that help us to mature in our relationship with God and to listen for God in our lives.

This module is for lay leaders who want to learn preaching the Gospel in general, the several styles and models of presenting the sermon to ensure clarity of message.

A short course about parish leadership and governance, how parish governance works, chairing meetings and facilitating group decision-making.

A module for lay leaders to learn reading from the Bible and speaking aloud, writing and reading intercessions, and using audio technology.

A course for everyone who wants to grow in discipleship.
